Spring Branding Sessions: Build a Bank of On-Brand Images Before Launch

October 10, 2026

Spring often brings new offers, website updates and plans for the months ahead. If you are preparing a launch, having your photographs ready before the campaign starts makes the rest of the work much easier.

Think website hero banners, PR headshots, photographs of your process and images that explain what customers can expect. A planned branding session gives you a bank of on-brand photographs to use across your website, social media and printed marketing.

Photography by Nimmy offers business branding photography in Whangārei and Northland, with one-off sessions planned around your launch or refresh. We focus on what your business needs to show and where the photographs will be used.

‍

Headshots, lifestyle portraits or branding: what is right for you?

  • Headshots: a professional portrait for LinkedIn, biographies, speaker profiles and media kits. If this is your main priority, explore my professional headshot sessions in Whangārei.
  • Lifestyle portraits: you in context, whether that is your workspace, a studio or an outdoor setting. These can suit About pages and social media when you need a more personal feel.
  • Branding sessions: a broader image library showing your people, process, products or services, and the space you work in. The brief is shaped around the marketing you have planned.

A launch may need more than updated portraits. Before deciding on a session, list the website pages, campaign materials and other places where you need images. That gives us a clearer starting point than simply booking a certain number of hours.

‍

Why plan ahead for spring and summer?

Good commercial photography helps people understand your business before they contact you. A consistent library also makes it easier to keep your website, LinkedIn, social media and print materials visually connected.

Longer days give us more options for outdoor coverage, but the season is only one part of the plan. The location should suit the business, the timing should suit the light, and the images need to be ready when you need them.

Share your launch date early so we can allow time for planning, the shoot, image selection and editing. If outdoor photographs are important, we should also discuss a weather alternative.

‍

What we plan together

Every branding session starts with a practical brief. We talk through:

  • The shot list: homepage banners, About page portraits, services in action, products or tools, workspace details and PR photographs. Tell me which images need space for text or particular crops.
  • Outfits: a manageable selection that suits your brand and audience. Comfortable clothes, useful layers and quick changes usually work better than trying to fit in too many looks.
  • Props: the tools, samples, packaging and materials you actually use. Choose items that explain the work rather than adding props just to fill the frame.
  • People: who needs to be photographed, when they are available and whether customers or collaborators will be involved.
  • Locations: places that support the story and fit the time available, including access, travel and any permissions needed.

It also helps to share your brand colours, website layouts and a few visual references. We can use these to clarify the direction while keeping the photographs specific to your business.

‍

Location ideas in Whangārei and Northland

Your workplace is often the most useful starting point. It gives the photographs context and lets us show what you do in a setting customers recognise.

  • Workspace: process, team interactions and details that help people understand the business.
  • Studio: a controlled setting for portraits or a clean background, with availability and any studio arrangements confirmed in advance.
  • Town Basin and waterfront: an option for businesses that suit an urban or local setting. We check the background, access and suitability for commercial photography.
  • Coastal locations: Ruakākā, Matapōuri or Waipū Cove may suit a lifestyle-led brand, with travel and light factored into the schedule.
  • Gardens or bush settings: greenery and softer backgrounds when they make sense for the brand.

One or two well-chosen locations usually give a more coherent set than a rushed tour of several places. Private venues and particular spaces may need permission or involve additional costs, which we discuss during planning.

‍

Half-day or full-day branding: which suits your launch?

A one-off branding shoot is planned around a specific launch, campaign or website refresh. The time needed depends on your shot list, team, locations and the variety you want.

  • A half-day branding session: a focused update covering portraits, your work in action and the key details of your business. It suits a clear brief with a manageable number of setups.
  • A full-day branding session: more time for a broader visual library, with room for team photographs, different parts of the business and additional setups or location changes agreed in the brief.

These one-off shoots are different from our monthly content sessions, which provide ongoing photography as your business develops. We confirm the duration, locations, final image allowance and price in your quote. Explore business branding photography to start planning.

‍

Photographs for vertical formats and social media

We can plan still photographs for portrait formats, with room for cropping and space for copy. Tell me whether you need website banners, social posts, Stories or photographs to use within a Reel so we can consider those formats while shooting.

Short video clips, behind-the-scenes loops and finished Reels are separate requirements. They are not automatically included in a photography package. If you need video, raise it in the brief so we can confirm what is possible and quote the scope separately.

‍

Licensing made clear

Image usage should be agreed before the shoot. Tell me whether the photographs are for your website, organic social media, PR, paid advertising, print or a wider campaign, and whether other organisations will need to use them.

Copyright ownership and the licence to use images are different matters. For Photography by Nimmy projects, these terms are set out in the quote and agreement. Check the agreed terms rather than assuming that every use is included or that copyright ownership follows one rule for every New Zealand commission.

If your plans grow, discuss additional uses before supplying or publishing the photographs. The Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand’s copyright licensing guidance explains how a licence can give others permission to use a copyright work.

‍

Planning a realistic half-day branding session

A half-day branding session works best when the priorities are clear. A practical plan might cover:

  1. A walk-through, outfit check and light test at your main location.
  2. Portraits and the key photographs needed for your website or PR.
  3. Your work in action, followed by tools, products, space and process details.
  4. A second nearby location if it adds useful variety and fits the agreed schedule.
  5. A final check of the priority shots before wrapping.

Travel, setup and outfit changes need room in the plan. Studio portraits, a workplace story, Town Basin coverage and a coastal sunset should not all be assumed to fit into one short session. If sunset photographs are a priority, we plan the start time and location around them.

‍

Deliverables and turnaround

Your package and brief set the coverage and final image allowance. After the session, you receive a private proofing gallery to make your selections, followed by the final edited photographs.

Delivery timing is confirmed during booking. Share any fixed launch or press deadline before the shoot so we can agree a workable schedule. If you need an early selection, we can discuss whether that is possible, including the image count, timing and any additional cost.

‍

Camera-ready, without the stress

  • Steam your outfits and bring a backup top.
  • Pack a lint roller, hairbrush and any small grooming essentials you use.
  • Choose clothes and shoes that suit both your work and the planned locations.
  • Keep jewellery and accessories consistent with how you normally present yourself.
  • If you wear makeup, aim for a look that feels familiar and comfortable.

You do not need to arrive knowing how to pose. I guide you through the session, with attention to expression, movement and how the photographs need to work.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between headshots and branding photography?

Headshots focus on professional portraits. Branding photography creates a wider library that can include your process, services, products, people and workspace for use across your marketing.

How do I prepare for a branding session?

Start with the places you will use the images, then plan outfits, props, people and locations around that list. We work through the brief together before the shoot.

How many images are included in a half-day branding shoot?

The final image allowance is agreed in your quote, based on the brief, setups and coverage you need. We confirm this before booking so you know what to expect.

Are video clips included?

Video clips and finished Reels are not automatically included. Discuss any video requirements before booking so the scope and cost can be confirmed.

Which locations work well for brand photographs?

Your workplace is often the most useful choice. A studio, waterfront, coastal or garden setting can add variety when it suits the brand and fits the schedule. We confirm access and any permissions needed.

How soon can I receive images for a launch?

Timing is agreed during booking. Share your deadline early, including whether you need an initial selection ahead of the full gallery, so we can confirm what is achievable.

Ready to plan your spring branding session?

Start with the photographs your next launch needs. From there, we can plan a session that gives you useful variety and a library that feels consistent with your business.
