Working Together – What to Expect

September 7, 2025

So, what’s it actually like working with me? No jargon, no over-the-top promises, and definitely no “photography magic” clichés. Just the real process, start to finish.

If you’ve never booked a photographer before, or if past experiences felt a bit stiff, you might be wondering what happens between that first “Hey, are you free?” and the day you get your final images. Here’s how it plays out from my side of the lens.

It usually starts with a message. Maybe through my website, maybe Instagram, or maybe you bumped into me at an event. You tell me what you’re after: a wedding in Northland, family portraits at the beach, headshots for work, documenting your exhibition, or something totally different. From there, I’ll send you clear info on packages, pricing, and how I work. No pressure, no sales pitch.

Once you’re happy, we make it official with a contract and an invoice. As soon as the deposit is paid, your date is locked in. That’s when the planning starts to feel real.

Preparation depends on the shoot. For portraits, I’ll send a guide on what to wear and how to feel comfortable in front of the camera (because not many people love being photographed). For commercial or art documentation, we’ll confirm the practical stuff like timing, locations and deliverables so the day runs smoothly.

On shoot day, I usually arrive a bit early to check the light and the space. I keep things relaxed. I’ll give direction when it helps, but I also know when to step back and let things happen. Whether it’s a family laughing together, an artist mid-process, or a team in their workspace, I capture it without interrupting the moment.

Afterwards, I know the waiting part can feel long. That’s why I send through a sneak peek within a few days. Your full gallery comes later in a private online space where you can download high-res images, order prints, or if it’s a commercial job, access the licensing info you’ll need.

Whether you’re planning a Northland wedding, gathering the family for portraits, updating your headshots, or building brand images that actually stand out, my goal is to make it simple and enjoyable. No mystery, no awkwardness. Just collaboration that leaves you with photos you’ll love and actually use.

If that sounds like what you’re after, get in touch and let’s start planning.
