Family Photos in Northland: What to Expect, What to Wear, and What They Cost
Family photos, the easy way
The photos most families actually treasure are not the stiff, everyone-say-cheese ones. They are the in-between moments: the kids being kids, a real laugh, the way your youngest still tucks into you. So that is what I photograph. A family session with me is less a formal sitting and more a bit of time together while I quietly catch the good stuff.
What to expect on the day
No rigid posing and no forcing anyone to perform. We pick a spot that suits your family, a beach, a park, a favourite reserve or your own backyard, and we let the session breathe. If a toddler needs a snack or a five-year-old wants to run, that is completely fine, some of the best frames come out of exactly those moments. My job is to make it feel easy so you can just be together.
What to wear
Keep it simple and comfortable. A few things that always help:
- Coordinate, do not match. Pick two or three colours that sit nicely together rather than everyone in identical outfits.
- Lean into softer, natural tones that suit the Northland light and landscape.
- Skip big logos and busy patterns, they pull the eye away from faces.
- Wear things you feel like yourself in. If you are tugging at an outfit all session, it shows.
Do not overthink it. If you send me a rough idea of what you are planning, I am happy to help you pull it together.
What shapes the cost
Family session pricing depends on a few simple things: how long we shoot, where we go, and how many final edited images you want to keep. The best way to get a clear answer for your family is to tell me roughly what you are picturing. You can see current options on my family photography page or get in touch and I will help you work out the right fit.
When to book
Families grow and change fast, and the version of your family right now only exists right now. If you have been meaning to book, this is your sign. Family photography, photography by Nimmy, across Whangārei and Northland.
